Dr. Rashid al-Khatib
Islamic Studies Scholar — Devotional Practice
Independent scholar of contemporary devotional practice in Islam, writing and lecturing in both Arabic and English.
Dr. al-Khatib is an independent researcher whose work examines how dhikr, du`a, and tasbih have moved across mediums — from beaded misbahah to printed cards to phone screens — without losing their function. He completed his doctorate in Islamic studies in 2014 and has since worked outside any single institution, lecturing in mosques, community centers, and adult-education programs across North America, the UK, and the Gulf.
He is interested in the practical question more than the polemical one: when a worshipper picks up a phone to count, what is preserved and what is lost? He writes in Arabic and English and is comfortable being told he is wrong by his elders.
