What is the Pomodoro Technique?

A simple time-management method that turns a big task into focused, repeatable sprints.

The Pomodoro Technique was created by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, named after the tomato-shaped (pomodoro in Italian) kitchen timer he used as a student. The idea is deliberately low-tech: pick one task, work on it with full attention for a set block of time, then take a short break. Each focused block is called a “pomodoro.”

A standard pomodoro runs 25 minutes of focus followed by a 5-minute break. After every four pomodoros you take a longer 15–30 minute break to recharge. The fixed rhythm makes starting easier, fights the urge to multitask, and builds in the rest that keeps you sharp across a long work session.

  1. Choose one task. Decide what you'll work on and clear away other tabs and distractions.
  2. Set the timer to 25 minutes and start. Work on just that task until the timer rings.
  3. Take a 5-minute break. Stand up, stretch, look away from the screen — genuinely rest.
  4. Repeat. After four focus sessions, take a longer 15–30 minute break, then start the cycle again.

The timer above runs this cycle for you. It tracks how many focus sessions you've completed, automatically rotates between focus and breaks, and you can adjust every interval in Settings — shorten the breaks, stretch the focus blocks to 50 minutes for deep work, or change how often the long break lands.

Tip: keep this tab open and your sessions auto-save on this device — refresh-safe, no account needed.

Section 01
01

Classic 25 / 5 / 15 cycle

Start focusing in one tap. Focus, short break, and a long break after every fourth session — the technique exactly as designed.

02

Fully adjustable intervals

Prefer 50/10 deep-work blocks or 15/3 sprints? Set any focus, break, and long-break length in Settings.

03

Auto-start phases

Let breaks and focus sessions roll into each other automatically, or require a tap to begin each one — your call.

04

Session tracking

Round dots show how close you are to a long break, and a running count tallies the focus sessions you've finished.

05

Audio & tab alerts

Pick from four alarm sounds. The browser tab title flashes when a phase ends, so you notice even on another tab.

06

Offline & refresh-safe

No account needed. Your timer and progress save on this device and survive a refresh or a closed tab.
