Marcus Chen

Marcus has spent the better part of two decades reading occupant-load tables out loud to club owners, retail planners, and event promoters who would rather not hear them. He works as an independent consultant on assembly-occupancy retrofit projects, with a heavy focus on IBC Chapter 10 compliance, NFPA 101 reconciliation, and the small but unforgiving differences between adopted code editions across state and municipal jurisdictions.

He trained as a code official before going independent and still spends a portion of every year sitting in plan-review hearings — usually as the consultant explaining why the back-of-house dishwasher count matters for the front-of-house occupancy calculation.
